Leander RHP/OF Reed commits to Ole Miss
Michael Reed is Mississippi-bound.
The Leander senior verbally committed Sunday night to play baseball for Ole Miss upon graduation.
Reed had it whittled down to three choices, deciding between Ole Miss, TCU and Texas State. One lingering memory waved him in — a packed ballpark in what is traditionally one of the top schools in terms of baseball attendance on top of their on-field performance.
“We went to a game Easter Sunday when they were playing Tennessee, and there were over 8,000 people there,” Reed said. “So I got a little taste of it, and it’s pretty amazing”

Leander's Reed to rep Nationals nationally
Michael Reed got a rare call this summer.
Following an amateur tryout with the Texas Rangers, the Leander senior was asked to play in the invitation-only ESPN/Rise Area Code Baseball Tournament Aug. 5-10 in Long Beach, Calif. as part of the Washington Nationals representative team.
Nationals’ scouts were impressed by what they saw from Reed, and the right-handed pitcher/outfielder will be in a select group of players nationwide who will get to play in the prestigious tournament with a chance to show what they can do in front of numerous college and MLB scouts.
Westlake’s Collin Shaw and Dripping Spring’s Parker French are the only other Central Texas players in the tournament, both playing for the Texas Rangers representative team.
