Awards for KLRU, KUT
A pair of Austin broadcasters have won some of the industry’s most prestigious awards.

TV station KLRU nabbed a Peabody for its long-lasting “Austin City Limits” program.
The announcement from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication cites the show’s “eclectic taste and unflagging commitment to quality.”
Awards will be handed out May 21 at the Waldorf-Astoria New York Hotel.
Over at 90.5 KUT-FM, Matt Largey was named best radio reporter in the Headliners Foundation’s Charles E. Green Awards for Excellence in Journalism competition.

Honors aplenty for City of Austin's Channel 6
It’s been a good year for the folks at the City of Austin’s Channel 6.

The station, available to area cable subscribers and online at austintexas.gov/channel6 and youtube.com/austintexasgov, brought home 26 state and national awards in 2011 — a new record.
Honors from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors include awards for Overall Excellence in Programming and Community Awareness, as well as the Brian Wilson Memorial Award for Programming Excellence for Channel 6 manager Keith Reeves.
The group’s state chapter also recognized Channel 6 for excellence in programming.
In the Lone Star Emmys competition, staffers Jonathan Uhl and James Williams nabbed an award for Outstanding Achievement in Television Photography.
And at the Texas Association of Telecommunications conference, Channel 6 grabbed first place in nine categories and 15 total nominations.

Texas State program gets $5,000 from Time Warner Cable
Andrew Hsiau, a program specialist for Texas State University’s Mathworks program, is the Central Texas finalist in Time Warner Cable’s national Super Connector Search contest.

Entrants in the competition work in a variety of capacities to help get youngsters more involved in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
Hsiau’s win means Mathworks, which aims to improve mathematics education, will receive $5,000 from Time Warner Cable.
He will also star in a public service announcement for Connect a Million Minds, the cable provider’s five-year, $100 million initiative designed to push more schoolchildren to pursue science, technology, engineering and math education and careers.
