New weathercaster pops up on KXAN

Early-risers should keep an eye out for a new face on KXAN.

KXAN’s David Mazza

Meteorologist David Mazza, a temporary fill-in, will deliver forecasts on the station’s weekend morning newscasts for the next month or so following the abrupt exit of weathercaster Rhonda Lee.

“KXAN News Today” runs from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The station’s other meteorologists — Jim Spencer, Shawn Rutherford and Natalie Stoll — had been pitching in since Lee vanished in late August.

Mazza was most recently at San Antonio’s WOAI, where he worked on the NBC affiliate’s weekday morning newscasts.

Before landing in the Alamo City, Mazza spent time at KZTV in Corpus Christi.

The folks at KXAN say the search for a permanent replacement should wrap up soon.
