‘Bachelor’ Brad Womack has a criminal record
If that looks like a mug shot, it’s because it is. Apparently Brad Womack’s crimes extend beyond the boundaries of his reality television career.EW.com reports that Austin’s Womack, back for a second stint on ABC’s “The Bachelor,” sports a criminal record. The website cites court records revealing that the Austin bar owner was arrested in Texas for forging a driver’s license in 1993.
Meanwhile, Star magazine says Womack has also been busted for bad check passing and public intoxication.
Networks are usually good at discovering this stuff during a vetting process, but Womack’s criminal record is under his birth name, Stephen Bradley Pickelsimer — which, I’m pretty sure, is what I am going to have to call him now in my weekly “Bachelor” recaps.
Are you surprised to learn of Womack’s indiscretions? Sound off in the comments below.
Correction: This post contained information from EW.com indicating that Womack’s surname at birth was Pickelsimer. That information is incorrect. Womack was born Stephen Bradley Womack. His surname changed to Pickelsimer when his mother remarried and, according to court records, was changed back to Womack in 1998.
Clarification: Tela Mange, spokeswoman for the Texas Department for Public Safety, said Brad Womack’s photograph, taken as part of the fingerprinting process for a background investigation, was not from an arrest. Womack’s brother, Chad, said the background check was requested as part of the process for obtaining a Small Business Administration loan.
The photo then, however, became part of his criminal record.
“The photo is attached to the person, not to an event,” Mange says.

A criminal record is a criminal record. Its a matter of public fact. Period.
The publisher of this story should not be concerned with whether something
is a "good idea" to publish. Thats not their job.
Good Job Dale Roe for reporting the facts.

The statesman is really grasping for news here. SO WHAT???!!! A college age kid with a fake id getting a public intoxication charge. I cant believe you even wasted your time to post such ridiculous information. Get a real job and leave folks alone. Another fine example of some nut using our freedom of speech in a way that I am sure our forefathers didnt intend. Brad Womack is a fine individual, one of the best I've ever met (and I know him on a personal and business level.) This world would be much better off if more people were like him.

That's it?!?!? That's the story?!?!? Dale, this is a joke of a story and you're the punchline! Brad wrote some hot checks in his late teens and was caught with a fake ID? Oh the horror!! LOL!! Can we please move on?

No reason to cover up his past or omit it. What if he was a stone-cold killer? People can decide for themselves what they think of him now and then. If he was a superstar at 19, I suppose that would make him look better. Nice to know he has a stage name like many performers do. The contestants can make a better informed decision about him knowing more of his past.

I would say that if Dale Roe is hoping people will be shocked or impressed with this article he is going to be seriously disappointed. A few indiscretions from his past aren't noteworthy of an article that sadly attempts to discredit or slander Brad Womack. The next time you think about releasing an article please at least take longer than 5 minutes to ask yourself if it will actually matter or make an impact to those who read it.

Roll Eyes: "Stupid kid making stupid choices"...at age 19? A kid?
When my father was a 19-year-old "kid," he was in the midst of battle in the South Pacific during WWII.
PLEASE refrain from calling a 19-year-old MAN a "kid." Thank you.

This is a "criminal" record? Are you joking? He bounced a check (gee--nobody I know ever did that)!?!? He got drunk in his late teens & was arrested (gee--I seem to remember that happening to me & my buddies in my younger days--it was part of an experience called "college"). And a fake ID--gee, this guy is dangerous!?! Maybe if you dig deeper you will find a late fee for a library book he kept too long?
This is ridiculous! You guys in the entertainment media hype this story as "Brad's Criminal Record") like he's a forgotten member of the Manson Family and then tell us he put chewing gum under his desk in the third grade. Why not just rewrite your headlines to read "Proof that Brad is a Regular Guy?"

I'm sure this man has changed since he was 19. Everyone has some kind of skeleton in their closets.(including myself)

I couldn't bring myself to watch the show the first time "Brad" was on-
sorry but I can't find anything attractive about this man . I find it sickening to witness these women demeaning themselves , and his plotting to make them stay !
Kudos to the woman who recently left of her own volition !
However the attempt to criminalise him over these minor indiscretions of his youth is way out of line.

Brad Womack is my second cousin. His birth name is Stephen Bradley WOMACK. After his parents divorced, his mother married a Mr. Pickelsheimer, who adopted Brad and his brothers. A few years ago, all three of them legally changed back to their birth name.

Shame on YOU Dale Roe for even bringing this up. Who gives a darn about somebody's past? As long as Brad is forging ahead and not on that same bad road, WHY do you insist on bringing up somebody's negative past? Because he's in the public eye?

Seriously??? who cares?
as far as the hot check offense, I used to teach this class. I can't tell you how many people came to this class where the offense occurred 10-20 yrs prior because the person moved, possibly closing their bank account and not doing a good job of wrapping up their bank accounts and closing them. No excuse...sure....but still. I saw various types of people who ended up in this class.
So if the hot check was from same time period...he was stupid kid making stupid choices.

Ummm, I went to the Star and RadarOnline sites and from what I can surmise of the details there -- he was arrested for a forged ID one week before his 21st birthday in San Marcos.
Not sure if the "public intoxication" was from the same arrest, but that is a common charge for young people out drinking -- especially when TABC was aggressively enforcing those laws.
That is NOT his mug shot, it's his driver's license photo -- it's "on file" with DPS because that's who maintains your drivers license photos and records.
Frankly the bad check writing is actually more interesting -- would be interesting to know the details, but probably just poor money management practices.
The biggest news in all of this is his NAME!!!

oh no!!! A fake ID when he was 19!!! The horror!!! Because everyone else waited until they were 21 and spent all of their time in college up until that bday studying and rescuing stray puppies and teaching underprivileged kids how to read.

Oh, who cares, he was a 19 year old with a fake ID. Who didn't have one? And a PI in Austin is easy to get. Now...the bad check writing...well, it can happen.

Ha, this is great. And no it's not surprising. He's a young man, he owns a bar, he lives in Texas, he's sorta cute. And don't even get me started on his real name. So what is the deal with the name change...the obvious or something else?
Oh, love your opening paragraph...criminal tv career indeed.

I told you he's a tool. I can spot jerks from miles away and I've been within arms reach of this one a few times. I'm glad to know his real name isn't Brad.... ;)
