Austin pastors’ daughter to appear on NBC show

One of the contestants on the upcoming NBC show “The Sing-Off” has strong Austin connections — and a strong musical pedigree.

Garland Phillips is a member of Voices of Lee, an a cappella group from Lee University in Tennessee, that will be competing with seven other groups for a recording contract and a tour to promote the album.

Phillips, a health science major at Lee, attended Hyde Park Baptist School in Austin. She is the daughter of Randy and Denise Phillips, pastors at Promiseland West Church. Her dad is also a member of the longtime Christian vocal group Phillips, Craig & Dean, which has sold more than 2 million records and has the No. 6 song on Billboard’s Christian music chart, “Revelation Song.”

“The Sing-Off” debuts at 7 p.m. Dec. 14. It also airs Dec. 15 and 16, with the finale scheduled for Dec. 21.
