The late Bill Hicks coming to Friday’s “Late Show”
Bill Hicks, the Houston standup who played Austin frequently until his untimely death from cancer in 1994, is coming back from the dead on Friday night.
Some of you may recall the late-night controversy surrounding Hicks, David Letterman and censorship. Some of you may not.
On Oct. 1, 1993, Hicks took his customarily edgy standup to a super-sharp edge during a taping of CBS’s “The Late Show With David Letterman.” Letterman and his producers felt Hicks had gone too far, and the segment never aired. It was a decision, Letterman has said many times, that has haunted him ever since.
So this Friday night (at 10:30 p.m. on KEYE), Letterman plans to make amends with an airing of the entire six-minute segment.
The 15th anniversary of Hicks’ death is Feb. 26, and several tributes have been planned. Check out the late comedian’s web site for details.
