Real or rumor: ‘Friday Night Lights’ heading to ESPN?

We have no confirmation whatsover, but what the heck, this is a blog, and blogs can pass on rumors:

The online magazine Radar is speculating that if “Friday Night Lights” expires on NBC, it could get picked up by ESPN.

Neither ESPN nor NBC, which produces “FNL,” has commented on the speculation.

ESPN, of course, is owned by ABC and Disney. Would NBC really give up a show it has bragged about for more than a year? Maybe. The ratings for “FNL” have been awful in its new home on Friday nights.

ESPN has been trying to broaden its base with original, non-sports programming, but this move seems like a stretch, don’t you think?

Friday nights on Wed. was more of an open time and not when most viewers are returning from there own kids sport events. FNL On WED was a hoot peoples would say how can that be. Only reason for low rating is time of night and wrong day.

I spent a day on the set of Friday Night Lights this week and I can say for sure - that this show is really fun and I think whatever happens - then let it happen. If NBC wants to let go of a good show, and ESPN wants to take it...why not? Americans tune in to much lesser programs by the millions, so if a company wants to pick up the show to broaden its viewing base, it sounds like a win win for the Austin film/tv community. I'll say anything to keep Connie Britton on TV.

What I think, is that Friday Night Lights needs to be on Television SOMEWHERE. I would prefer it on NBC because I can't watch it very often, and I can see it online anytime I want. I don't understand why that show doesn't get ratings, when Dancing with Stars goes off the charts. Tells you where the heads of TV viewers is, doesn't it? Let's keep Friday Night Lights ALIVE!!!

Do networks really still use a ratings system even with the increased use of the DVR? Myself, friends and family only watch DVR recorded shows (one of them is FNL). The only programs we watch live are Longhorns games and other sports.

Not really. Did you see the Bornx is Burning? Besides The Contender was on NBC prior to being on ESPN.

Not really a stretch. Did you see the Bronx is burning? Besides ESPN picked up the Contender which was also an NBC program prior to the move.
