Austin Nichols to guest star in ‘Friday Night Lights’

Unemployment didn’t last long for Austin Nichols, the Austin actor who starred as the mysterious surfing savant in HBO’s short-lived summer series “John From Cincinnati.”

Nichols, who also appeared in HBO’s “Deadwood,” has come home for a guest-starring role in the Austin-based NBC series “Friday Night Lights.” He’s not in the Oct. 5 season opener, but his multiple-episode story arc will begin soon after. Executive producer Sarah Aubrey will reveal few details but confirms that Nichols will play a teacher at Dillon High.

Best known in Central Texas as a water-skiing champ, like his mother Kay Nichols, Nichols grew up on Lake Austin, attended Casis Elementary and McCallum High School before heading to the University of Southern California where he earned a degree in creative writing in 2002. His father is radiologist David Nichols.

We miss you, Austin! Still grieving over the loss of John from Cincinnati. You nailed that part. Chamomile, Billy. Wonderful.

Glad Austin is working; HATE that HBO cancelled "John From Cincinnati"-Austin nailed that role. Fantastic watching him pick up other characters' speech patterns, mannerisms. Thanks, Austin, for giving me a great summer...and I have never surfed in my life!!

Can never get enough of Austin! His wonderful performance as John Monad in John From Cincinnati was a true joy to tune into every Sunday. I'm glad Austin has something to do on Friday Nights, but I'd rather HBO put him back in the water in Imperial Beach. Bring back John From Cincinnati, HBO!

I am also very happy to hear that Austin Nichols is in a new series. He is a wonderful actor.

But it is a real pity that John From Cincinnati was cancelled. It was a fabulous series that should have been given more of a chance.

Want to watch some really good TV? Then tune in on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. to CBS and watch "THE UNIT." I know some might think just another military style show, but it has one thing that a lot of shows lack - plot and action. I think if you watch a few episodes you'll actually leave with a different perspective.

I loved Austin in John from Cincinnati! So happy to know he will be on one of my other favorite shows. :) But so sad JFC did not catch on... I thought it was a fun show. :(
