“Friday Night Lights” wins casting Emmy

“Friday Night Lights” was shut out of many of the categories, but it picked up an Emmy Award for casting Saturday night in Los Angeles when the creative arts awards were bestowed.

Austin’s Beth Sepko was honored for location casting, with Linda Lowy and John Brace picking up Emmys for the show’s primary casting.

The major Primetime Emmys will be handed out next Sunday, and “Lights” is up for best directing in a drama series for Peter Berg, who helmed the pilot. Yes, the Central Texas-filmed series, heading toward its sophomore season, should have received best drama series and several acting nominations, but it only got two — for casting and directing.

For the best casting in a drama series award, “Lights” beat out “Brothers & Sisters,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” and “The Tudors.” Not bad for a show that earned high praise but low ratings its first season.

Wow...glad to see FNL got some accolades for its performance. I am a fan of this show and glad its getting a second shot. Although, I do wonder how well it will fair now that its being cast onto Friday nights - for real. I hope that NBC is smart and airs it again - maybe on Saturday - and for sure broadcast it online the next day. I think online broadcasts capture an audience that might not otherwise have time to sit down in front of a tv, but might make time online. I've caught many a show repeat online while at lunch during the work week.
