Time Warner Cable rolls out new, faster Internet option
Time Warner Cable is debuting wideband Internet in the Austin area, promising residential customers speeds of up to 50 megabits per second downstream and 5 megabits upstream.
The new service, when bundled with other Time Warner Cable services, is priced at $99.99 per month.
An estimated 70 percent of the company’s Central Texas customers have access to wideband Internet now, with the remainder scheduled to come online by August. San Antonio, Waco and Wichita Falls are also included in the rollout.
Customers can check to see if wideband Internet is available in their neighborhood by visiting Time Warner Cable’s website.
At the same time, speeds for the Road Runner Extreme service are being increased to 30 megabits downstream and 5 megabits upstream from the current speeds of 20 megabits downstream and 2 megabits upstream.
Road Runner Extreme runs $64.99 per month when bundled with other services.

I may have exaggerated the speed differences, but look at this:
http://gizmodo.com/5390014/internet-speeds-and-costs-around-the-world-shown-visually out of 15 Countries, we are # 15
One last thing, how is this a news story? Seems more like an advertisement. Perhaps TWC ought to pay you for the article.

Oh Boy! now I can surf at a speed that is 1/10th of most of Europe instead of 1/15th! Wake up TWC and get up to par with the rest of the world. Your new “faster” speed is still a turtle! And to charge more for your turtle? inconceivable!

These AT&T Uverse shills fail to mention that AT&T Uverse now has caps.

Get Grande if you can. Time Warner and ATT are a duopoly and keep prices high. ATT now has bandwidth caps on Internet usage. Time Warner bought off many apartments (only in higher income neighborhoods, of course) years ago to stop Grande from competing with them. Don’t support monopolist tactics.

We’ve had TW for 7 years. The whole time we’ve had great speed, high reliability, and excellent customer service. We just compared our service to what Uverse offers again and they can’t beat my TW service or the price.

The monopoly was broken up, but guess what? It came back together again and is now called AT&T! Want real competition? Break it up for good, that’s the only way, because then the companies actually treat you like a customer and the pricing drops like a rock.

To bad no one wants to break up the telcom monopolies. Then we could get faster internet for cheaper.

Suddenlink - $55 a month for 20 mps but it is always 40-45 mbs at speedtest.net and speakeasy. For $99 a month they will give you 112 mbps

If Grande is in your neighborhood, I support their internet. Their top tier internet is $89. I just ran a speed test at www.speedtest.net and my results are 69.68 down, and 1.40 upload…speeds seem to vary but I always get at least 50 on the download and sometimes about 4 on the upload.

I HATE time warner. the service (cable and internet)goes out all the time and they still want to be paid. Literally only works half the time. I got ATT U-verse and it is the best. I have had zero problems, the guy that hooked it up spent 4 hours getting everything right, even organized the chords for my other electronics. The guide, price, service, features EVERYTHING is better with ATT!!! I cant say this enough, I tell everyone all the time. Time Warner can suck it.

Does anyone really think they will get that speed? I have business class 10up 1.5 down. We have never gotten over 7 and lately its in the 5 to 6 MB range. Last week I called since the speed was .35MB, not 3.5, but .35. They had we do a speedtest on a rr site and it came back as 9.89. When I question this they asked me to do a speed test at speakeasy.net a company they had just bought and lo and behold .45.
It’s all marketing hype and you will never get the speeds they say you will.
