I was the sound engineer who mixed the Stooges show for SXSW. I was not hired by the Stooges. I was in house all week at Stubbs. The Stooges did not bring any sound tech with them. I can say FOR SURE that there was NO backing tracks what so ever. What you may have heard was the lower frequencies of the guitar chunking away filling the space where part of the bass was in the spectrum of bass frequencies.

Speaking as the sound engineer “NOT HIRED BY THE STOOGES” and also “THE ONE WHO MIXED THE SHOW” at Stubb’s, there were no backing tracks. What you may have heard, my friend, is the lower frequencies of the guitar chords chunking to fill space. When Mike Watt stopped playing his bass there was no bass. Only low end of the guitar. What a ridiculous assumption…..

Dave from Dub Is A Weapon here…I don’t really know why Scratch showed up so late, but I believe that the club owner ended up being charged with some kind of misdemeanour noise violation..and probably would have been handcuffed if we didn’t stop playing. :( And I believe that Scratch said this: “Music lovers…it’s time to elect a new government” after I told him we were getting shut down by the cops.

Wish I’d known about this. Sounds like it was a nice event.

as long as he kept walking that’s fine. by saturday i am usually ready for everyone to get the hell out of town anyway.

Check out Jamie’s new movie Kickin It Old Skool out 4/27! www.myspace.com/jamiekennedy

special guest was James McMurtry!

Is there a law against playing music after 2am? Can someone explain what the actual citation was? This does not make sense…

Met a guy who was representing the sponsors on the plane. Four other girls and I showed up halfway through kings of leon & he let us straight into the VIP. Connections rock.

Thanks for the write up, Marc! It’s great to see folks supporting local music!

any special guest at big red sun…we had to leave early…

glad you made it to witness the sublime research of the P Stomp peoples…. come to New Orleans for Jazz Fest for the real deal, if you can handle it.

wow. fascinating. a marginal singer covers hot songs, one by one, on a yearly basis. the world yawns. and he is playing two consecutive SXSW fests? seems as if the sparks to shook his career into the stratosphere have been soaked in cold rainwater.

The Melvins and Big Business together form one of the most leathel foursomes in music, period. One of the best shows I saw last year hands down. Great little article about the show, and you made me want to go and grab a Boris CD… P’s Da’ Freak

Iggy Pop was on my American flight from DFW last night. He was very gracious to the people who recognized him. Not sure how he’s going to sound, but age has definitely not been kind to him - perhaps it’s more former drug abuse than age. He looked like he could be Leslie’s (Austinite’s know who I mean) brother. Long live Rock ‘N Roll.

More wristbands? I wonder what the business reason is for this.

Los Angeles was smoke-free before Austin. What a ridiculous/whiny post. Thanks, Parry.

Color Revolt, (playing tonight at Red Scoot Inn, tomorrow @ Red Eyed Fly and Sat. @ the Belmont) had their van, trailer, equipment, instruments, clothes etc. stolen outside a venue in Dallas last night. They had just loaded up after playing and went back into the venue for a minute and someone hotwired the van and drove off. The Austin music comm. has been great but would be nice to fill the house and show them some support. See story http://www.colourrevolt.com/ and Dallas newspaper or http://www.myspace.com/colourrevolt

Some of their stuff has started turning up in Dallas pawn shops today and investigators are on it.

I recently saw Dan Rather on a Frontline report about the direction of newspapers and journalism in a new-media world. The guy knows what he’s talking about…my guess is that all the people who left either couldn’t hear because of the accoustics or regarded things like ethics and accountability as a bunch of funny old-man talk. What a shame.

more info on live broadcast from LBJ, please. Time, date(tonight 12, or tonight 13?) how to attend? badges, other? Thanks
