The Capitol Years
Act: The Capitol Years
Hometown: Philadelphia
Venue: Habana Calle 6, 10 p.m. Saturday
Pre-show buzz: “The hottest thing in Philly right now.”
High point: The three guitars, bass and drums all coming together on “You Can Stay There,” which makes a case that Freddie Mercury has a big influence on today’s power-pop groups.
Low point: When two band members introduced a song at the same time so that the talking sounded like gibberish. For a band with such short, snappy songs, this “comedic” bit went on too long. Also the room was way too well-lit, so the audience members just stood in place when perhaps many of them wanted to rock out.

has the music fan really become so self-obsessed and steeped in ADD that they fail to realize that perhaps the commradary and “gibberish” you viewed on stage was simply a band doing what they loved and enjoying the company of eachother as much as that of the audience. are we so numbed by the endless stream of standoffish performances buy the latest hot number, that we can no longer appreciate a band for who a live show is defined by the ability to interact with each other and the audience on stage. is complete and how does a band enjoying playing possibly detreact from the quality of their performance. in the case of a band who’s vocal, instrumental and personalities work to create something of beauty how is it that they should behave as court jesters and perform silently then leave to allow for your critics so you can get back to your can of pabst as quickly as possible.
