I guess I should be flattered to have been mistaken for a taped augmentation but I was right there on the stage playing the riff on my tenor sax, just like always! Steve Mackay
Great rock band. Loved their show so much i could follow them around the world!!
Text message went out hour before he went on. I didn’t have a wristband and was glad this was free! It was tres good.
FYI, from someone who was there and had a better vantage point than the other dude….. From: ROBERTMATHEU Date: March 20, 2007 To: brianjbowe BULL**! there wasn’t any bass when that was going on. At this point of the show I was taking photos of mostly Ron, and waiting for Iggy to run into the picture while I was focused on Ron. I heard the bass drop out and then looked over at what Iggy was doing he was riding the barricade fence from inside the pit, toying with the crowd, I then looked at Watt and Chris (the tech) fighting over what could be wrong, Iggy stayed in the pit until almost the end of the song, climbed back onstage are drove feet first into the bass stack, if it had been canned bass, why would Iggy know the amp was out? Feel free to forward my rant to anyone. Also, Iggy looked at me at one point and yelled “Fking Boy Howdy!” and waved…have it on the iPod!
has the music fan really become so self-obsessed and steeped in ADD that they fail to realize that perhaps the commradary and “gibberish” you viewed on stage was simply a band doing what they loved and enjoying the company of eachother as much as that of the audience. are we so numbed by the endless stream of standoffish performances buy the latest hot number, that we can no longer appreciate a band for who a live show is defined by the ability to interact with each other and the audience on stage. is complete and how does a band enjoying playing possibly detreact from the quality of their performance. in the case of a band who’s vocal, instrumental and personalities work to create something of beauty how is it that they should behave as court jesters and perform silently then leave to allow for your critics so you can get back to your can of pabst as quickly as possible.
thank you for posting this…
it was a great set, it felt like I was electrified. I thought the audience got it, I know with the tv it’s a distraction. But I know she and the band count it among her best ever experiences on the stage. is it up and available to watch anywhere?
Isn’t that the truth? My good friend, Dana Fehr was the sound engineer for that set, he tours with Pelican. And boy oh boy, I hadn’t heard anything so magical in years. I bought the cd, and everyone else should too. They transcend any musical border.
Didn’t they play “What Do I get?” last?
nate is rather silly. that show was great, the crowd was very, very into it, and Bush, Cheney, and Blair all deserve much worse than a razzing from a rap group.
I absolutely love this band. It’s always nice to hear something different!
This band was AMAZING!!! They are going to blow up!
Cheers, Texas Fan!!!
I was there, and the venue wasn’t “empty”. Granted, there should have been more folks there given the talent and awesome show, but hey, it’s a BIG room and everyone was crowded together to get closer to the action. I heard about Polyphonic Spree from others (it was my first experience of them) and now that I know, I’ll be looking for more performances. A band this unique gets fuel from “word of mouth”, which takes time but creates loyalty.
That is great that commenter d was able to enjoy a show that was not packed out with people. I don’t think the bartenders or the band enjoyed the venue being so unattended though. Musicians always, ALWAYS, want to play to as many people as possible…for as many people as possible to hear their music and their message.
Also, it seems to make no sense to have hundreds, maybe even thousands of people being turned away from Stubb’s to go home dissapointed when, with a little better planning, they could have actually got to utilize their wristbands to see the La Zona Rosa show…if only they had known about it. A text message going out at 1:00 a.m. that the show is now free and open to the public doesn’t seem like something that they planned to happen. Seems more like a last minute attempt to fix the problem.
guess u didnt know that his band played friday night to a packed house at stubbs and this extra show was what it was suppose to be. as a fan, i loved that i wasnt packed in like i had been at other shows this weekend
WHY was this set moved up an hour??
What a huge disappointment to catch only the last two songs!
Would’ve been nice if SX would’ve texted everyone with an update of the set change instead of texting us about where Donovan was performing.
For Real.
Honestly, the mood of the crowd was one of boredom, and the repetitive rants of “f” Bush, “f” Cheney, “f” Rice, and “f” Blair were at best unclassy and not entertaining. Politics aside, I will never support a classless act like I saw last night.
I was there-one of their best performances!!!
The Bravery are still playing SXSW while the Killers are playing the erwin center…..
Comparing the two now is kind of ridiculous!
