And the Fashion Festie Award goes to …
My first day at the Austin City Limits Music Festival was filled with fashion hits and misses. Turns out I became a hot mess the minute I started walking from the Statesman’s building to Zilker Park for the live music action. My lightweight outfit (cargo shorts, a sleeveless shirt and a baseball cap) was soaking wet with sweat as I entered the park shortly after lunchtime.
Enough about me. Overall, the name of the game at the park on Friday was simple: It was all about staying dry no matter how stylish you intended to be. Even Bjork, whose set was slow and not over-the-top as you might expect, seemed to be wearing a lightweight couture number, almost like an oversized kaftan, that reminded me of an Ewok from “Star Wars.” But that’s Bjork for ya. She’s always fashion forward, I guess.
I spent about eight hours at ACL, wandering the crowds and checking out what thousands of people were wearing. This is what I noticed - and expected: The women had their looks together - dresses, bikini tops and short skirts were the name of the game - while many of guys - with killer abs and without - kept their shirts off and opted to simply wear cargo shorts.
We all were trying to beat the heat in our own way with fans, lightweight clothes and umbrellas.
