Austin Critics' Table 2010-2011 winners
The Austin Critics’ Table Awards were presented at a spirited ceremony tonight.
In its 16th year, the Austin Critics’ Table is an informal group of arts critics from the American-Statesman and the Austin Chronicle that annually recognizes outstanding achievement in the arts. This year’s awards recognize events between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011.

Austin Critics' Table 2010-2011: Details of the pre- and post-party
This year, the Austin Critics’ Table Awards ceremony is getting amped up with some extras.
The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. June 6, at Cap City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Blvd.
But starting about 6:30 p.m. prior to the ceremony, Butcher Bear & Charlie will be playing in the Cap City Comedy Club’s bar. Afterwards, there’s the “Encore Party” with drink specials and music by Atari Matt.
The Invincible Czars will be the house band for the awards show. (If your acceptance speech goes on too long, the Czars WILL start to play…)
The ceremony and pre- and post-show events are free and open to the public.
The entertainment and after party is courtesy of arts management firm Rampant Arts and arts-specialist PR firm Wyatt Brand who are sponsoring this year’s awards ceremony. Blackerby Violin Shop is also a sponsor.

Nominations for the 2010-2011 Austin Critics’ Table Awards will be announced May 26. Announcements will appear in this blog live at 12:01 a.m. May 26.

Austin Critics' Table 2010-2011 awards ceremony

For this year’s ceremony, arts production firm Rampant Arts and PR firm Wyatt Brand are donating their services to the event and the Invincible Czars will serve as house band during the awards ceremony.
In addition, Rampant Arts and Wyatt Brand are hosting an after-party for all attendees in the Cap City Comedy Club Lounge. Entertainment for the after-party TBA.

Austin Critics' Table Awards nominations announced
Austin Shakespeare’s production of “An Ideal Husband,” Dan Welcher’s Symphony No. 5 and the Blanton Museum of Art exhibit “Birth of the Cool” are just some of many arts events in the past year that have been nominated for an award by the Austin Critics’ Table.
Other nominees announced today include Austin Lyric Opera’s production of ‘The Bat,’ pianist Anton Nel’s solo concert at the Long Center and costume designer Michaele Hite for the UT Butler School of Music production of Duke Ellington’s “Queenie Pie.”
Visual artists Sterling Allen, Heyd Fontenot and Anna Krachey are among those nominated for Outstanding Visual Artist. Those recognized for Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role include Barbara Chisholm, Liz Fisher, Joey Hood, Lauren Lane and Chase Woolridge.
Receiving nominations for Outstanding Original Composition are Austin composers Dries Berghman, Jason Hoogerhyde, Russell Reed and Graham Reynolds.
The informal group of arts critics from the American-Statesman and the Austin Chronicle acknowledges achievement in the arts with its annual awards. Awards are given in various categories for theater, dance, visual art and classical music. Austin Arts Hall of Fame inductees 2009 named
Without them, our artful Austin landscape wouldn’t be as rich.
Creators, organizational founders and philanthropists — the 2009 inductees to the Austin Arts Hall of Fame represent the wide talents needed to grow and sustain a creative culture.
This year the Austin Critics’ Table honors the following people and welcomes them to the Austin Arts Hall of Fame:

2007-08 Austin Critics' Table Awards nominees
Ballet Austin’s “Cult of Color: Call to Color,” Austin Museum of Art’s triennial exhibit “New Art in Austin” and Zach Scott Theatre’s production of “Porgy and Bess” are just three of many events in the past year to be nominated for an award by the Austin Critics’ Table.

Other nominees announced today include composer Graham Reynolds, who was nominated for two original compositions, “Cult of Color: Call to Color” and “The Odyssey,” a choral work commissioned by the Austin Children’s Choir; dancers David Justin, Andee Scott and Laura Cannon; actors Marc Pouhé, Lee Eddy and Katherine Catmull; and visual artists Yoon Cho, Ali Fitzgerald and Jonathan Marshall. Costume designer Susan Branch, sound designer Buzz Moran and lighting designer Tony Tucci are also among this year’s nominees.

And the nominees are...
Congrats to all who have been nominated for Austin Critics’ Table Awards this year.
We reshaped the awards this year, eliminating gender distinctions such as “Best Actress” and “Best Actor,” adding more categories to the visual arts awards to recognize the burgeoning activity of the genre and otherwise streamlined the awards to reflect the nature of Austin’s diverse and eclectic arts scene.

Be sure to join us at the free, casual awards ceremony at 7 p.m. June 4 at Cap City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Boulevard. We’ll celebrate this year’s inductees to the Austin Arts Hall of Fame and announce Critics’ Table Award winners.
