Austin playwright Kirk Lynn wins $50,000 USA Artists

Austin playwright Kirk Lynn has just been named a 2011 one of the 50 USA Fellows, a $50,000 prize from United States Artists, a national nonprofit organization.

A founding member and co-producing artistic director of theater company, the Rude Mechs, Lynn is the authorof such locally award-winning plays as “The Method Gun,” “Requiem for Tesla” and “Cherrywood.” A native Texan, Lynn received his MFA from UT’s Michener Center Writers. He currently teaches at UT.

Lynn joins such contemporary creative luminaries as theater artist Anna Deveare Smith, visual artist Glenn Ligon and choreographer Trey McIntyre as well as Austin’s Deborah Hay, as a recipient of a USA Fellowship. www.rudemechs.com
