Austin Arts: Seeing Things

Jeanne Claire van Ryzin is the arts critic for the Austin American-Statesman where she has worked since 1999. She moved to Austin from New York City in 1986. Her work has appeared in Architecture, Art Papers, Dwell and The Review of Contemporary Fiction, among other publications. When she is not busy seeing things in Austin, she travels to see even more things.

KDH Dance’s ‘FlashDance’ is now flashier

Five years ago, Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance thrilled sold-out audiences with its lively program of 30 modern dances presented in just 60 minutes.

Dancers set a kitchen timer to cleverly count off the time and Hamrick’s signature whimsical yet physically disciplined choreography left the audience breathless.

Now, Hamrick and company are back with 30 more super-fast dances, played against a lively multimedia background.
