The show Skype’s on
Little things can get in the way when you’re trying livestream live theater between Austin and London. Things like daylight savings time.
When the organizers of ‘You Wouldn’t Know Him, He Lives in Texas/You Wouldn’t Know Her, She Lives in London’ — a performance that takes place here in Austin, and in London, at the same time via Skype — they didn’t factor in that this weekend, the clocks change on our side of the pond.
The one-hour show — by Beth Burns of Austin’s Hidden Room Theatre in collaboration with London’s Roundhouse Theatre — goes on as planned this weekend, but Sunday’s performance will be at 3 p.m., not 2 p.m. as orginally scheduled. Saturday’s performance is at 2 p.m.
“You Wouldn’t…” focuses on a couple involved in a long-distance relationship, one conducted mostly via Skype, the internet-based phone service with video chat capabilities. Read a story about it here.
Burns and her collaborators — Austin tech coordinator Robert Matney, actors Judd Fariss and Rachel Watkinson, and Roundhouse’s Conor Roche and Mimi Poskitt — will be the focus of a panel at SXSWi on Saturday. ‘Artistic Collaborations via Skype: Turning Distance into Drama’ is at 9:30 a.m.
And in true internet-culture style, this weekend’s shows will be livestreamed for free. Go to www.roundhouse.org.uk/live at 2p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday Austin-time, to watch “You Wouldn’t…” live. You can send questions to the characters during each performance too. And everyone can participate in the live chatter via Twitter using the hash tag, #TexasLondon.
