L. Nowlin Gallery to shut its doors
After two years of operating her small but specific photography gallery on West Sixth Street, Leslie Nowlin says she will close the doors on her business in mid-February.
“I’ve decided I want to be a photographer myself again, and an artist,” said Nowlin, whose own portfolio includes a portrait series of minimum wage workers and images from travels in Guatemala, Cuba and Mexico.
The last exhibit closed Feb. 12. There will be a closing reception on Feb. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. See lnowlingallery.com for more information.
Nowlin’s gallery, which opened in 2009 within rooms connected to Wally Workman Gallery, focused on fine art and documentary photography, mostly featuring black and white work. Nowlin has organized a number of group exhibitions as a gallerist, including the current show “Storytelling,” a collaboration with Austin Photography Group. In October, the gallery hosted a reception for famed-photog Bruce Davidson.
