Talking art: James Sham and Eric Zimmerman
On Saturday, you can make an afternoon of art talk-hopping when Arthouse and the Austin Museum of Art host back-to-back events. And all you have to do is cross Congress Avenue to get from one venue to the other.
- At 12:30 p.m. at Arthouse, 700 Congress Ave., join Houston-based artist James Sham as he discusses his engaging, charming video work, “Close Caption,” a sign-language translation of DJ Kool’s “Let me Clear My Throat.”
Sham’s project inaugurated the Arthouse’s LIFT Projects, a series of videos screened inside the contemporary arts center’s elevator. As always, admission to Arthouse is free.

- Then at 2 p.m. the Austin Museum of Art, 823 Congress Avenue, join former Austinite Eric Zimmerman for a walk-through his new show, ‘We Chose To Go To The Moon,’ the latest in AMOA’s ‘New Works by Austin Artists’ series.
Zimmerman uses the Apollo 11 lunar landing as a starting point to examine how history is created through images, objects, texts and sounds. Zimmerman employs drawings, books, sculpture, sound art and an ersatz newspaper to cerebral effect.
Admission to the talk is free with museum admission ($4-$5).
