The ‘Trash Project’ is on tonight — rain or shine
From Forklift Danceworks comes this announcement:
- The Trash Project is on for 7:30 p.m. tonight- rain or shine!
Please bring rain gear and a seat cushion or towel to sit on as the bleachers may be wet. We are discouraging umbrellas for people sitting in bleachers as umbrellas will block views of the stage. You can stand with an umbrella if you like
The Trash Project
Saturday, September 12th at 7:30pm
Austin Studios Tarmac (1901 East 51st; just east of the intersection of 51st and Berkman).
Doors open at 7pm, seating is general admission and 700 seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is free (donations will be happily collected!) and there is plenty of free parking. We will have a limited about of Trash Project t-shirts for sale as well (cash only!). Show will run about 1 hour.
br> Come out and support your city’s sanitation workers. They work in the rain all the time. Let’s watch them dance in the rain tonight!

Please. One of the most amazing aspects of the performance tonight was that throngs of people turned out in spite of the weather forecast. Think how much it meant to the performers that the city came out to see them in the rain! The event was filled far beyond capacity, with organizers turning attendees away at the entrance. People then parked at adjacent warehouses and swarmed the performance through side access fields and parking lots. Glad to see that Austin cares more for true creativity than staying dry at home.

Any chance of an encore performance? I really wanted to attend, but the kids wouldn’t get much out of it if they are getting drenched.

If the Statesman could pass this along, it would be much appreciated. We really do want to support this event but would strongly urge the organizer and troupe to postpone if at all possible. There will be such a diminished turnout, which is unfair to the workers who have put so much into it, and it is actually dangerous to urge people to come out during flash-flooding events. So far I haven’t been able to talk my husband into okaying our drive. Local authorities are asking people not to get out if they don’t have to; please, please consider moving it to another evening.
