And the nominees are…

Congrats to all who have been nominated for Austin Critics’ Table Awards this year.

We reshaped the awards this year, eliminating gender distinctions such as “Best Actress” and “Best Actor,” adding more categories to the visual arts awards to recognize the burgeoning activity of the genre and otherwise streamlined the awards to reflect the nature of Austin’s diverse and eclectic arts scene.

You can see the complete list here.

Be sure to join us at the free, casual awards ceremony at 7 p.m. June 4 at Cap City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Boulevard. We’ll celebrate this year’s inductees to the Austin Arts Hall of Fame and announce Critics’ Table Award winners.

I’m not sure I am on board with how you have laid out the actor’s categories. If you make the distinction between a musical production and a drama - why can’t you do the same for the actors in those productions? How would you like to be an actor in “My Dead Gay Son the Musical” going up against someone in “As You Like It”? These are very different art forms. I think the new format shortchanges actors.
