President’s Masked Ball at Sheraton Austin
Heads turned for the spontaneous applause. The president had arrived. The namesake for the annual President’s Masked Ball benefiting Huston-Tillotson University quietly took his seat.
Etienne Maurice and Lauren Martinez
Pres. Larry Earvin, recently hospitalized, looked hale and cheery sitting next to State Rep. Dawnna Dukes and Lisa Menzies in the center of the Sheraton Austin ballroom. All around him were teachers, students, aides and prominent members of the community, such as State Sen. Kirk Watson.
Russell L. Bouyer and Breaion S. King
Over to one side were Breaion S. King and Russell L. Bouyer, named Miss and Mr. Huston-Tillotson after a competition that included declamatory and talent elements. Both wore resplendent crowns.
Naomi Onyebuchi and James Andrew Ward
Among the distinguished students were Naomi Onyebuchi, recently admitted into the Baylor College of Medicine, and James Andrew Ward, who serves on the university’s student leadership council.
The Masked ball is always a decorous, jazzy event. Wish it weren’t always on such a popular Saturday.
