Fashion Freakout at Mohawk
“I know why you came out tonight,” said the emcee, after he climbed out of his penguin costume. “You came to judge other women.”
Jane Anne Duddleston and Colin Gardipee
“And you guys — most of you — came for the women,” he cracked. “Then why are you wearing the same old hoodies and waffle-weave caps as last year? Look at you. This could be any place in Austin. It’s a fashion show, guys!”
Mike Clayton and Jenn Brown
Fashion Freakout is indeed a fashion show. A venerable one for Austin. A club show that, at least from the stage, seems more like an industry show. And this year, it was held in the deep freeze outdoors at Mohawk on Friday.
Allison Del Papa and Ryan Dawson
Guests kept warm with hot drinks or ones that heat up the system. The average age of the crowd, I’d say was 27 or so. A few oldsters like myself — parents? fashion media? — chatted them up.
Karli Gary and Carlos Chavez
Most remarked on the stark contrast between what paraded onstage — highly romantic, layered creations — and the utilitarian street wear in the house. Neat to see both styles competing at surely the coldest Austin fashion show ever.
