Grand Opening of Four Seasons Residences
I felt disloyal. To Kip. To Wren Cottage, our home. To our pets, Sascha, Nick and Nora. To our neighborhood, Bouldin Creek. And to our decades-old embrace of bungalow-and-garden living.

By this I mean that the grand opening of the Four Seasons residences really turned my head. Architect Michael Graves imagined the 32-story tower as a honeycomb of understated elegance. Interior designer Fern Santini emphasized black, white and gray in the lobby and the shared 32nd floor, with its library, pool, gym and other services.

Powerful — very powerful — people attended the grand opening on Friday. They soaked up the inimitable Four Seasons service. They watched the fireworks over the lake — I told former Mayor Will Wynn I appreciated the very high, white metal lips on the glass parapets outside the gym, even if they spoiled the view a bit.
Acrophobic, you know. Which may disqualify me from tower living.

Later, a free contingent from the American-Statesman explored a model unit on the 12th floor, facing north toward the Capitol. So cool without being cold. So convenient without being crowded. So New Austin — with a grand view of new and old.
