Mozel Tov Dentlers!
The Dentlers received guests at the Palm Door on Friday. The occasion: The marriage of Matt (George) Dentler, head of programming for a movie distribution company, and Devon Wilson, a producer of television commercials. (I learned the flat honorifics from the New York Times.)
Hank and Matt Dentler
Matt, of course, is the former head of the South by Southwest Film Festival. He now lives in New York. His bride is from Connecticut. Matt grew up mostly in the Texas Valley, where his father, Hank, ran a seafood company for 30 years.
Here’s the twist: Hank and I attended St. Vincent’s de Paul Catholic School, grades six through eight, in Houston. Hank went to the sports-oriented St. Thomas High School; I veered off to the Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. Hank went on to play football in college; I chose the life of the stage.
We caught up on a few St. Vincent’s alumni. Some have passed away. Some have succeeded triumphantly. Others have taken completely unexpected roads.
Meanwhile, Matt’s friends from the Austin film community showed up in force to the reception at the Palm Door. And though I could stay only a few minutes, I felt reconnected with two generations of Dentlers.
