Womacks buy Mother Egan’s

GetImage.jpg
The Womack brothers — Brad, Chad and Wes — have purchased Mother Egan’s Irish Pub. They plan a complete overhaul of the building and the bar’s concept. The Womacks already own three East Sixth Street tourist clubs (Chuggin’ Monkey, Thirsty Nickel and Dizzy Rooster), a Warehouse District bottle club (The Marq) and a sleek West Sixth Street veteran (Molotov).

Whatever the Womacks do at the Mother Egan’s site, it will not duplicate their efforts in other nightlife districts, they say. West Sixth has developed its own character, which Brad describes as “very diverse — young, old, gay, stright, business suits and casual all together.”

Brad is best known outside Austin’s nightlife scene as “The Bachelor” who didn’t propose, but that was two years ago. We’re all ready to let that go. He admits that some Mother Egan’s regulars will not like the changes, but there are plenty of Irish/British pubs downtown. In fact, there’s a pretty popular pub right across the street.
