Annies Opening on Congress Avenue

Rarely have I witnessed such an animated restaurant opening.

Annies, of course, was Apple Annies, a basement lunch spot on West Sixth Street.

Designer Dick Clark let the light into the double-bay 19th-century brick structure. The geometrics please, as does the cream-colored scheme, although I agree with Clark that a few more dark accents wouldn’t hurt.

From their comments and expressions, I’d say Annie’s is a mega-hit already, pleasing loyalists from its old, mostly catering location and dazzling newcomers with its continental sophistication.
