Your A-List, Best Place for a Cheap Date
Does it seem like a lot of A-List votes deal with dating? Wasn’t it just a week ago we were writing about Best Places for a Blind Date? Oh well. Our love and respect goes out to the singles. This week, it’s Best Place for a Cheap Date, an evergreen subject that comes with a timely twist, given the current economy.
The Big Cheap winner answers the ancient “dinner and/or a movie” question by providing both in the most convenient, friendly manner. Alamo Drafthouse grabbed 23 percent of the vote. No. 2 on the list is a really cheap date, costing exactly nothing, although you may spend a few cents on gas to reach Mount Bonnell. Also, it makes sense to pack a picnic and a blankie if you really want the full-on date experience. Austin’s highest point with a view got 21 percent of the tally.Pizza is a date fave food and Home Slice on South Congress Avenue slipped into third place with 11 percent. Movies in the Park, a seasonal freebie, often in Republic Square Park, pulled in 8 percent. Frank and Angie’s, another pizza joint, ordered up 7 percent, while the First Thursday street party on South Congress plunked down 6 percent. The Zilker Botanical Garden, a pleasantly old-fashioned arboreal retreat, tied with First Thursday.
The volume margarita dispenser Baby Acapulco served up 5 percent, just ahead of the campus-area dive Nasty’s. Taking 3 percent or less were Crown and Anchor, Elephant Room, Jackalope, Austin Park & Pizza and Third Base.
