Catching up with Alisha Ring at Medici Coffee
What can I say about Alisha Ring? She took a nonprofit — the Austin Technology Council — from near bankruptcy to a half million dollar annual budget in the course of three years, expanded the number of participating companies from a few dozen to a few hundred, unified the group’s fractured mission, forged a partnership with Forbes and established initiatives in lesser-known areas of Austin high tech, such as biotech and life science. (Ring admits she resisted the last one, and was shocked to find there were more than 90 area companies working in that field.)
I met Ring for coffee at Medici on West Lynn, which is deservedly one of the most popular hangouts in the Clarksville area. Ring’s most obvious strengths include her organizational mindset, her grounded zeal and her hard-to-resist charm. She never intended to land with the Technology Council, but it sounds like the group practically drafted her. Turns out she brought along more than mere marketing skills and has helped to create community with Austin’s most important industry. We hunger to know even more. And, oh yes, she earned that spot on the Fortunate 500, what with all those high-tech happy hours and more serious convocations.
