Russia invades Georgia. Edwards admits to affair. China blasts off its Olympics with style.
Meanwhile, closer to home, one bit of media news kept creeping back into my consciousness. Our publication’s own austin360.com was listed among the 13 important Austin technology blogs in August 7 story by Mashable. We credit a good deal of this aura to Digital Savant reporter Omar Gallaga, but the following evaluation also applies to Biz reporters, online entertainment editor Gary Dinges and his whole 360 crew as well: “The tech bloggers there at the Statesman appear to be active members of the tech community, and their coverage reflects that.”
Other sites listed were
Kristine Gloria and
Joey Lopez’s communicator
Austin 3.0; new business tracker
Austin Startup; audio/video interview collector
AustinCast; veteran tech blog
GeekAustin;
Michelle Greer’s
Michelle’s Blog (she’s pictured here with
Tom and Sonia Greer);
Josh Dilworth’s appropriately named
Josh Dilworth;
John Eric Metcalf’s
Optimal Experience (this is one I already follow); the biz networking group
Social Media Club Austin;
Thom Singer’s
Some Assembly Required;
Jeff Beckham’s
The Jeff Beckham Weblog (another I already follow); and the forum
Door 64.
We’ve been thinking of starting a purely digital category for the Fortunate 500, recognizing those who are hyper-social, just not always in person. Makes some sense.
Meanwhile, we’re taking our thousands of daily RSS feeds from GoogleReader now, not NewsGator. I liked Gator early on, but Google has smoothed out the wrinkles and simplified the process for incompletely digitized folks like me.

Thanks for the note, Michael -- I was flattered to be included on the list and appreciated this extra boost from Out and About! Keep up the good work and I hope to see you again soon.
