2008 Fortunate 500: Nightlife
NIGHTLIFE
Top picks Jen Shoemaker and Sid ‘DJ Kurupt’ Sharda: West Fifth Street is the primary drag for nightlifers who’ve outgrown East Sixth Street, fled the music of Red River Street and perhaps aren’t quite ready for the price points of Warehouse District ultra-lounges. Running the nightly events at the well-dubbed Gruv is firecracker Jen Shoemaker. Her boyfriend, Sid ‘DJ Kurupt’ Sharda, keeps things spinning at nearby clubs, including a regular Sunday gig at Red Fez that attracts an A-List crowd.

Michael!
What an honor to be listed in the Fortunate 500 this year!
I am truly IN LoVe with Austin and Austin's people and I do feel that our nightlife industry is BOOMING and should be promoted and enjoyed. It is TRULY great to see a Nightlife category included this year. Thanks for including it!
With a waining U.S. economy, it is ever more important to support our musicians and nightlife here in Austin. So, thank you for helping to recognize those who are doing their best to promote a very important part of Austin's economy and culture.
Warmly,
Jette' F. Momant

Mr. Barnes: Don't know how you can do this--vacationing in the Great Outdoors of Montana and simultaneously baby-sitting your Austin-society lists! Whew! Another form of multi-tasking, I guess.
Don't mean to sound schoolmarm-ish, but I'd say . . . forget the Austin social whirl and just enjoy your vacation. Don't worry, those Austinites who love to be talked about and shown off aren't going anywhere, and they're not likely to slip a notch up or down in the rankings during your vacation. An Austinite in Montana and Alberta should be your theme all this week, I'd say.
Thanks for answering my question regarding the wild bison and their predicament.
