Your A-List: Best Disc Golf Course

M5X00142_9.JPG
First, let me dispel a misconception about Austin disc golf: One need not be baked to play. No, really, there’s no municipal ordinance requiring it. And, if male, shirts are OK. Not required, but OK.

Many a wreck has been narrowly averted along North Lamar Boulevard, where hazy disc golfers frolic in the dead of summer playing the Pease Park course, voted No. 1 in the Austin area by Your A-List with a slicing 43 percent of the vote.

The Zilker Park course, located in the shady south central recreation area, came in second with 15 percent, while Mary Moore Searight Metro Park took 12 percent. Slaughter Creek Metro Park in Circle C was No. 4 with 9 percent. Coming in under 4 percent were Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park on Slaughter Creek, Bartholomew District Park (which used to rule back in the 1980s), Wells Branch Park, Our Savior Lutheran Church, Texas State University campus and Old Settler’s Park.

The Jay Janner photo is of then-nationally-ranked disc golf player Mike Olse striking an Olympic pose at Zilker Park. I know, it’s the runner-up course, but because I helped to commission the image for an XL cover in 2006, I’m partial.

Write-in votes: Cameron Park in Waco, Moody’s Disc Golf Course in Bastrop

As of right now Mary Moore C. Wright is the best coarse in Austin only because Circle C. is closed for renovation. I have visited Circle C. and have seen that they have opened some of the holes up (cleared trees) and have poured cement tee boxes. I was told that it is going from a 21 hole course down to an 18 hole course. I can not wait for it to open. Hurry up and open it back up already!

The number one disc golf course around town is most definately cicle c off slaughter. Bad tee boxes yes, but great course. Plus they're redoing the entire course and putting in concrete tee boxes. Very Nice!
