Your A-List: Best Radio Morning Show

Let the war of words begin. We have a winner. But we also have a very close contender for Best Radio Morning Show.

Before going into the details, we should note that tens of thousands of you expressed your opinions, and that the contest was engaged over the air, with Bobby Bones openly lobbying his fans, while other jocks in town urged their listeners to vote for Snoop Daniel against themselves — in order to block the popular Bones.

BioPicSnoopHover.JPGWe do love a good fight. Snoop at Beat 104.9 won (45 percent), narrowly nipping the highly rated Bones on KISS-FM (43 percent).

Here’s the skinny on Snoop from the Beat’s Web site: “After stints with ‘The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show’ in Dallas, and with 101X and 1300 the Zone in Austin, Snoop finally has a hip-hop home. One-man morning shows are hard to find, but he juggles his ‘reality radio’ with energy and true chemistry with the listeners.”

Way down the list, Mix 94.7’s “J.B. and Sandy Morning Show” copped 6 percent. Everyone else — to this observer’s profound surprise — came in under 1 percent.

That includes, in descending order, 101X’s “The Morning X,” KLBJ’s “Dudley & Bob Morning Show,” Hot 93.3’s “Boogie & Mimi,” KVET’s venerable “Sam and Bob Call-in Show,” KUT’s “Morning Edition,” The Zone’s “Bucky and Erin,” The River 102.3’s “Family Friendly Mornings, KGSR’s “KGSR in the Morning,” Jammin’ 105.9’s “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning,” KASE’s “KASE Morning Crew,” La Ley’s “El Chulo y La Bola,” NewsRadio 590’s “Austin’s Morning News,” BOB-FM, 57 La Que Buena’s “El Piolin,” Majic 95.5’s “Majic in the Morning with Kim and Alex,” KMFA and KOOP’s “The Lounge Show.”

Listen to the radio this morning, folks. See what’s said and let us know. And don’t forget there will be a rematch in April when we poll for Best DJ. We enjoy Snoop and Bones both, and look forward to next time.

Your A-List: Best Brunch

Trudys.jpgAustin loves it some Trudy’s. Three weeks ago, you chose Trudy’s as the best place in town for margaritas. This week, the venerable Austin chain wins the Your A-List contest for Best Brunch as well.

Backing Trudy’s with almost 22 percent of the vote, you loved its mix of Tex-Mex and Americana at locations north, south and central. (I have a feeling some people are mixing margs with their migas, which is very Austin.) Whatever people are eating and drinking, Trudy’s blend of high energy and low-stress vibe combine to put even the sourest puss — student, tourist or family group — in a sunny mood.

The mini-chain Galaxy Cafe came in second with 15 percent of the tally, followed very closely by Z’ Tejas, which has two locations in Austin. Moonshine, with its slightly upscale comfort food in the shadow of the Convention Center, came in fourth with almost 11 percent.

Grown-up Chez Zee in the Northwest Hills pulled in 8 percent, while Fonda San Miguel, known internationally for its interior Mexican brunch buffet, drew almost 7 percent. Hyde Park Bar & Grill (almost 7 percent), The Omelettry (5 percent), Cafe at the Four Seasons (now transformed into other venues, including Trio, 4 percent), Manuel’s (2 percent), Taverna (2 percent) and Starlite (2 percent) round out the regular candidates.

Write-ins include Austin Diner, Cannoli Joe’s, Cypress Grill, El Chile, Fajita Warehouse, Flores, Green Pastures, Juan in a Million, Kerbey Lane, Lamberts, Marie Callender’s, Maudie’s, Mimi’s Cafe, Satellite Cafe, South Congress Cafe, Tien Hong, Waterloo Icehouse and Zax.
