‘High School Musical’ stomping back

hsm%20redux.jpgOur prediction proved true: Zachary Scott Theatre’s “High School Musical” returns to the Texas School for the Deaf Auditorium Sept. 28-Oct. 28. And if you are stuck on the original cast of 30 performers, you’re in luck, because the entire crew is returning, minus three. As we reported here, ‘HSM’ was sold out to the rafters during its summer run.

“The frenzy for tickets was comparable to what we experienced with ‘Beehive’ 15 years ago when it took off and transformed Zach,” Artistic Director Dave Steakley says. “I can actually remember someone standing outside Zach scalping tickets for ‘Beehive.’ During ‘High School Musical,’ I saw some tickets being scalped on Craig’s List. So I don’t know if that means ‘High School Musical’ will be part of our lives for the next 15 years the way ‘Beehive’ has been, but it is certainly here for the foreseeable future.”

This is cute: Adult ‘HSM’ actors Tim Blackwood and Amy Downing told the student performers that one doesn’t get to sign autographs and take pictures for 90 minutes after every show — which is what happened every performance — so enjoy it!
