Austin Nichols’ DWI arrest

AN%20mugs.jpgTV: The Jackson (Mich.) Citizen Patriot is reporting that actor Austin Nichols — who hails from Austin and starred in the recently canceled “John from Cincinnati” on HBO — was picked up on suspicion of drunk driving early this morning.

It appears that extended Nichols family members live on Clark Lake near Jackson, Mich. and he was visiting for the summer. Like other members of his family, Nichols is a champion water skiier. Lt. Aaron Kantor told the Citizen Patriot that a city police officer stopped Nichols’ car at 2:30 a.m.

"This item seems a bit below you."

Not really. It is typical of no news to find something to clog this space with. He could put all the DUI's here and would need a new server. This is really great entertainment reporting! If HE gets a DUI or parking ticket, he will of course report it here first.

This item seems a bit below you. You said yourself that:

"The effort is not modeled so much on Internet meat-grinders like TMZ or Gawker as on warmly dishy Liz Smith, who frequently drops a few lines about Austin into her New York Post column. Less like trash-monger Perez Hilton than inexhaustible humanist and humorist Herb Caen, fanning out over the streets of San Francisco."

I hope that turns out to be true.
