Fun Fun Fun Day Three: A wedding and some Misfits
The last day of a three day festival is always kind of rough. People are tired and/or hungover, the facilities are usually pretty beat, and most people have to work the next day. That said, everything was actually in pretty good shape Sunday at FFF. It even rained a bit, which helped keep the dust down (at least compared to Saturday).
Festival promoter James Moody said on Saturday they were expecting fewer people on Sunday, but by the time Slayer took the stage with pentagrams projected onto a white curtain hung in front of the stage, it seemed like there were just as many, if not more people in the park.
Some highlights:
A wedding and some Misfits: Two big highlights of the day were a wedding officiated by Henry Rollins and Ted Leo’s set, which started great and got even better when he donned a black tank top and wig for a string of Misfits covers, including “Skulls,” which Graham Williams said he had wanted to see in his explanation of what happened before and during the Danzig breakdown Friday.
OBN III’s: Among the best rock bands in Austin, in your face rock ‘n roll with with lead singer Orville Neeley acting like a maniac.
Austra: Toronto-based band originally named Private Life changed their name to Austra, the Latvian goddess of light. That name fits the band better, with fleeting, airy harmonies defining the group’s sound.
