KVET Free Texas Music Series moves to Nutty Brown Cafe

Nutty Brown Cafe, 12225 U.S. 290 W., is the new home of KVET-FM’s Free Texas Music Series.

Now in its 10th year, the concert series kicks off April 6 with Reckless Kelly and continues for 26 weeks, wrapping up in September.

Doors open each Wednesday at 5 p.m., with opening acts taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. Headliners follow from 8 to 10 p.m. The 8 p.m. hour will air live on 98.1 FM and will also be streamed at kvet.com.

For folks who can’t attend, the station promises to post photos, streaming video and audio, and behind-the-scenes interviews all summer long at texasmusicseries.com.

Terrible news. For the past 5 years, I’ve routinely met up with friends on Wednesday nights in South Austin for some phenomenal music and good times. Charlie Robison, Chris Knight, Hayes Carll, Dale Watson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and many more great shows there.

Looks like those Wednesday nights are over now. I can’t imagine any of us will feel like driving to Dripping Springs for a free show.

It’s only about 15 minutes further than the original location (still an Austin address), and although I’ll miss those Hill’s rolls, I’m excited about more room and being out in the beautiful hill country!

Great news. Don’t have to worry about being cramped into a tiny Hill’s sweating next to 1500 people and barely being able to see the stage. Plus tons of real parking instead of parking in random fields. Really looking forward to it being at Nutty Brown. Great move, KVET.

Huge bummer…the south austin location and intimate setting under the oaks made TX Music Series so cool. Nutty Brown isn’t even in Austin!!! Please bring it back to Hills.

Went to Nutty Brown to see Dale Watson for the “free show” too bad Nutty Brown was charging $30.00 for the privilege of sitting down at a table to order dinner. We planned to go all out, nachos, steaks, and drinking while listening to Dale: price was not an issue, needless to say we had two sandwiches at the snackbar and left after the first set, way to go Nut, you made $11.00 when it would have been around $100.00. Please move the venue back to Hills, they at least know how to treat people. Dale looked and sounded great by the way.
