ACL 2011 has a date
The Austin City Limits Music Festival will move back a couple of weeks and return to its mid-September origins in its tenth anniversary year in 2011, taking place from September 16-18, according to the festival’s official website.
As Chad Swiatecki mentioned last month, the first round of early-bird tickets will go on sale October 20. Subscribers with an E-List profile on the ACL website who verify their profile by 11:59 p.m. tonight will receive an e-mail with information on how to get first crack at the tickets.
Update 1:45 p.m. The festival has announced further details in an e-mail sent out to subscribers. A very limited number of “souvenir” tickets — priced at $50 — will go on sale sometime this week. Details will be announced via the festival’s tickets page, as well as its Facebook and Twitter feeds. $165 early bird tickets, meanwhile, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 20. E-mail subscribers will receive a unique password to buy tickets on October 19.

No WAY would I go in mid-September. That is nuts. This weekend was great, though! Thank goodness for the water stations!

So what do the organizers have against cooler weather? Did they not sell enough beer this time?

Who cares about listening to a bunch of loser bands in 100+ degree heat? Oh yeah, all the dope smoking hippies in Austin.

They finally have a festival with great weather & then immediately announce they’re moving it back to mid-September when it will almost certainly be oppressively hot. Are they complete morons? Can’t stand good fortune? Unbelievable.

Back to when the heat will be in the mid-to-upper 90s (or worse)?!?!?!? What idiot made that decision????

I totally agree that this year’s festival was outstanding for weather and made it a much better experience! It’s been explained in the past that the festival does not want to compete with UT football. If true, instead of scheduling it while Texas was away @ UCLA, why not schedule it either Oct 1 (@ Iowa State) or Oct. 22 (@Baylor)?

C3 really wanted to keep it in october but sunday sept 18 was the only date available on headliner Lady Gaga’s busy tour schedule.

They schedule it in accordance with the Longhorns ‘bye’ week on the football schedule, so I guess you can assume that that is the ‘bye’ week on next year’s UT schedule. One reason they do this is to not compete with UT’s away games, which does tend to draw alot of potential local ticket buyers out of town.

Don’t be silly, kids. Next year is ACL ‘10 and they lined up a major headliner (months ago) so that’s the date. Awwww. Don’t like the heat? Don’t go. Boo-hoo. Don’t know how we’ll get by without ya!

First C3 adds 10,000 people to make a crowded event, now pulling back into a most likely hot September? Ok… thanks, but I think I will sit this out.

They can’t get the top talent to come to Austin in the middle of October. I agree, later in Sept would be better, but they’re trying to get the best musical talent.
And, on average, it’s not that much cooler on October 10th than it is on Sept 16th. It goes from about 85 degrees to 81 degrees.

I completely agree. October is perfect weather… and September is just not. I dont care who the headliner is. Whoever made this decision is an idiot, Im sorry.

Weather in the mid 80’s vs. high 90’s possible 100’s. Not very smart.

News to patrons of the ACL Music Festival: Lady Gaga’s Touring Schedule is more important than you are. Good luck in the 95+ degree heat, and intense direct sun next September…Good luck everyone, I’ll be home with the armadillo.

Of all the major music festivals in the country, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lalapalooza, ACL Fest is definitely for the old generation. A 55-year-old who works downtown and make $200,000 a year is a very average, typical festival goer in Austin, and the bands chosen reflect that. While festival goers in other cities were listening to Gaga, Jay Z, Kanye, Katy Perry, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, the ACL Fest spent its money on the Eagles, who were touring Texas 40 years ago.

Headliner, you’ve got to be nuts. Lady Gaga is performing in Austin in April, she WILL NOT be performing at 2011 ACL Fest!

While other festivals feasted this summer on Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Kanye, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, we got the Eagles. Who’s headlining next year, Little Richard? Tony Bennett?

Bobby, I was joking. :) The only bands that would merit the move back to mid-September would be on the order of U2, Radiohead, maybe David Bowie and Paul McCartney. I’d be ok with the September heat if one of those bands headline the 10th ACL!

does anyone know how many tickets we can get when the souvenir tickets go on sale?

Marcos: sadly, the $50 souvenir tickets have already sold out through Front Gate Tickets; a very small salvo of them were available this morning but disappeared pretty quickly. Next week will be your next chance.

ACL is nice and all, but it has gotten far to mainstream and out of reach for the average austinite. I understand the appeal of making money, but has that old, genuine Austin music culture really gasped its last breath? Bring back something for the local masses. Bring back Aquafest at Auditorium Shores……I got dibs on the first round of Skipper Pins…

They pushed the festival back because of football games. They didnt want the festival conflicting with football because it wouldn’t bring in as much money for the city. They don’t really care if everyone bakes or not during the festival
