The pigtails are gone: Willie Nelson cuts his hair

Country music fans have come to expect a little eccentricity from legendary crooner Willie Nelson, but he pulled off a real shocker this time.
He cut his hair.
“Oh Noooooo!,” wrote one fan who saw a picture of Willie’s new-do on the website of Nashville TV and radio personality Jimmy Carter. Another fan expressed the tongue-in-cheek hope that Willie had taken his freshly shorn hair and “donated it to the oil spill.”
Nelson’s waist-deep, reddish pigtails have long been one of the singer-songwriter’s signature features. But spokeswoman Elaine Schock said Nelson, who’s been hanging loose in Hawaii, got his hair cut in the last couple of weeks. She said the Texas-born performer didn’t make a big fuss about the makeover, but she theorized Willie might have grown tired of dealing with the long locks.
“There’s a lot of maintenance,” she said.

If he still has the hair, hope he would consider donating to Locks of Love—they take human hair and provide wigs for cancer patients. They could do a Willie Wig and auction it off for charity—might be a big money raiser.

GREAT idea, Chuck!! Maybe drop a line to the “Locks of Love” folks/Willie Nelson. Bet the barber shop scooped his hair up… better check eBay…

Wow, a 77-year-old man decided to remove three pounds of weight from his neck and shoulders. The Willie Nelson haircut is the non-story of the year- as if Twitter cares. I just hope Willie kept his golden locks and that there’s not some barber in Maui set for life. This harvest of hair could be the best thing to ever happen to family farmers, if Willie sold his follicles for Farm Aid.

Ummm … your follicles are actually the shafts in your skin from which your hair grows, Michael. So, if Willie sold his follicles, THAT would be a story!

Well, Michael Corcoran, apparently the story interested you enough to leave a post. Willie is the poet laureate of Texas, he’s written songs that would makes statues cry and, in general, done more for his fellow Americans than a thousand Michael Corcorans ever will. If you can’t say something nice about the man, do us all a favor and consider saying nothing.

As someone who cut his thigh-length hair off over a year ago (wore it that way for 12 years), I can understand why Willie did it… it is a LOT of maintenance! Just ask my wife… she braided it every day for me. I missed it at first, but don’t any more… and yes, I did donate it to Locks of Love… all 37 inches of it.

Willie is a family legend…literally. My wife’s uncle, Jimmy Day, played steel guitar with Willie for years! Long before I met my wife, Willie was a legend in my Tejano family. Hot days mitigated by a few cold ones down in Terlingua come to mind, even if I will never get to chill with the man.
