Cactus Cafe solution: form non-profit org.;lease the space from UT; people can donate tax-exempt and keep the Cactus open as a music incubator. The football program reportedly brings in $87 million/yr. so UT can move some of that money around to support good programs, pay instructors more, eliminate tuition increases and take away some of that obscene money that goes to coaches and AD. UT is there for the 50,000 students to get an education, not for 100 or so guys who play football. College football is nothing more than a farm system for the NFL, that we pay for with our tax dollar at public universities. Those who benefit the most, besides the 10 or so who go to the NFL each year, are the coaching staff with their huge salaries and bonuses (note the musical chairs of coaches vying for lucrative positions at the close of the season). The only good thing that came from the UT loss to Alabama, besides the exposure of Garrett Gilbert, was that UT didn’t have to pay Mack Brown the $450,000 for a win.

Sunshine, What grade did you get in economics, I guess F. Tax money is not used for UT football, but football pays for many UT sports that don’t make money. So if you take the money from football, then you would have to use tax money for the other sports (like womens rowing…..). So how would that that help? Also, if you don’t pay the coaches, the team would not win and there would be less money for the University. Stick to your plan about the Cactus, it is less stupid than the rest of your thoughts.
