Justin Furstenfeld sings ‘It’s Just Me’ last night at Stubb’s

The rain killed the scalpers, as the first show since Justin Furstenfeld’s breakdown and hospitalization didn’t sell out. But the show was packed with powerful moments, as this band’s followers are a wildly devoted lot. The constant drizzle felt like Blue October weather.

On Thursday, Furstenfeld said he was nervous because he wasn’t yet used to new medication. In rehearsals he was forgetting lyrics, but after a somewhat subdued opening, the set really kicked in with “Dirt Room” and Furstenfeld appeared transformed.

After the show, the band was heard cheering in their dressing room. Furstenfeld said after the opening jitters he settled down and had a blast. “I suddenly realized, ‘this is what I do’ and it all came back like that,” he said, as he walked to his car through a sea of wellwishers. “And I didn’t forget a single lyric!”

Tonight’s show at Stubb’s is sold out, so maybe the secondary ticket market will break even.

Can’t wait for tonight’s show. Bought tickets when they first came out and was scared that they were cancelling the Austin shows as well. Though I would never trade their mental health for my ability to see a show, I’m certainly glad they returned to stage last night and that I can see them tonight. The energy is UNREAL at their concerts and I’m thinking tonight will be just as amazing… Especially considering I’m amped about the set list… all of the oldies and some of the great new ones.

The concert was filled with energy and support for Justin and the band on Saturday. Although every show has its own vibe, I must say it was the best Blue October concert I have gone to. The weather held out and the band sounded spectacular.

I just love seeing Justin doing what keeps him whole. My heart goes out to him and his struggles. Thank you. Just, thank you. I purchased my first Blue October 3 years ago, and since that moment, I’ve played nothing but Blue October in my CD player. The words are where I go to escape.

I’m so happy that Justin is doing better now. I am excited for when they announce their next tour, but I also want Justin to make sure that he is okay to perform. I am sure that it’s a really hard thing to do, and everday for a few months. But I love him for it! Please don’t forget to come to SLC, UT on your next and ALL future tours! I miss you Justin.

I got introduced to your music this year. I saw BO the first time in Des Moines and was blown out of my mind at the intensity and sheer beauty of the performance of the band. The show at Stubbs was awesome, nice to see you guys at home in Austin. Justin, the lyrics reach so deep into me. Thank you Justin, best wishes…get better man…

I went to the Saturday show. I am so glad to have read the interview and understand that it was because of the medication that he wasn’t acting like his normal self. Of course he still put on an amazing show, but it is such a relief to learn that it wasn’t some other reason. I am so proud of Justin and the rest of the band for doing these two shows. I hope the best for Blue October and their families.

It was truly a great weekend. I drove down from Dallas because I wanted to be there in support of Justin and the band. All five of them put on a great show.

I look forward to more shows in the future. For now Justin just take the time to heal. Thank you so much for all you give.

While I could not be there, I appreciate the articles and videos posted here on Austin 360. I absolutely adore “It’s Just Me,” and to see they began their encore with that song! Thank you for including the video. As Justin says in “Say It”, the crowd lifts him up when he’s feeling down, and it sounds like it worked for him once again. This band means so much to its fans, and Blue October never fails to amaze us.

Having a mental relaps is something I feel is on its way. I can not stress enough how important it is to have a support system, weather it is family or friends, it is extreemly important for everyone to have someone they can trust. Blue Ocotber has been an inspiration to many in the strangest way. They unconventional apserations are conventional to our generation.

Went to the show on Friday night and it was awesome. The weather was pretty wet and a little cold, but I didn’t regret it for a second at the end. Blue October rocked it out as always - glad they made it out for this 2 night stand!!! They are such an inspiration and I’m glad Justin seems to be doing better. I can only hope the support of their loyal fans helps too!

Blue October has been an inspiration, to my own battle with manic depression and I introduced them so my sister when she came out that she was a lesbian, and thought the world and the family(our mom and dad) were against her. She suffers from a terrible mental attacks from panic disorder and felt a complete disconection from the world around her. She says, “they helped me understand that I was not alone, and tomorrow may be better than today, and that regardless of how scary, ‘I am going to be okay.’” I hope he uses his own advise and keeps his head, because there will be a better tomorrow.
