BET still loves Kanye West
AP is reporting West received nine nominations for the fourth annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, which will be televised Oct. 27.
West’s latest album, “808 & Heartbreak,” has sold more than a million copies.
West’s world got a lot more interesting Sunday after he ran onstage and ruined Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. Blogs and pundits and Internet wise-acres just can’t get enough of this story.
Jay-Z and Lil Wayne drew the second-most nominations with seven apiece, while T.I. received six nods.

Americana notes: Austin showcase barely survives Hurricane Fogerty
Last night’s Austin showcase at the American Music Association conference in Nashville had the misfortune of going up against John Fogerty’s “surprise” set in an adjoining club, so such acts as Seth Walker, Amy Cook, Asleep at the Wheel and Reckless Kelly played for smallish audiences of less than 100 in the cavernous Cannery Ballroom.
Our Blackberry-thumbing correspondent noted that the Wheel did get an attendance boost near the end when the Fogerty audience let out, but otherwise the night, co-sponsored by the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau, with Austin food and beverage vendors on hand, was a bit of a bust.
Band of Heathens were one of Fogerty’s opening acts in the Mercury Lounge, so they had a big crowd, but their set was moved up an hour.
Tonight,a bunch of Austin acts, including the Belleville Outfit, the Gourds, Reckless Kelly, Flatlanders and the Wheel will play the Americana Music Awards at the Ryman Auditorium, the mother church of country music.
The night’s big Lifetime Achievement honoree is John Fogerty, who is expected to steal the thunder again. Might even force the Gourds to pull out “Gin and Juice.”.

Black Joe Lewis to make national TV debut
Meteoric garage soul outfit and one of Austin’s biggest breakout acts of the year Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears will add another accomplishment to their already-formidable list on September 21, when they make their arguably overdue national television debut on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” according to a press release from Lost Highway Records. The Universal-owned alt-country and alt-rock label released Lewis’ debut album, “Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!” back in March. The record has since seen a steady stream of praise and garnered glowing write-ups from Spin, Esquire and the Washington Post. Lewis and guitarist Zach Ernst recently appeared on Tavis Smiley’s syndicated radio show, and the band will perform at the 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival.
No word yet on which song they’ll be belting out in Ferguson’s exceedingly small studio, but infectious call-and-response rocker “Sugarfoot,” given its dual status as a radio single and one of the band’s few profanity-free and FCC-friendly songs, seems a likely contender.
