Weekend picks: Surefire post-punk, earthy psych funk and chaotic noise rock

Manikin at Red 7. One of the most surefire post-punkish bands in Austin. A little garage rock, a little early Cure, a surf lick here and there, a random trumpet bit here and there. Excellent! 9 p.m. Free.

SATURDAY
Brownout! CD release at the Mohawk. Brownout is Grupo Fantasma on a heavy dose of psychedelic … well, anything. The band mixes earthy psych rock, early ’70s Motown and Latin funk until you can’t tell the difference. The new album is called ‘Aguilas and Cobras’ and features a guest appearance from members of White Denim, Hacienda and the Golden Hornet Project. 9 p.m. $10.
