ACL lineup changes now officially official, Sonic Youth out, Dirty Projectors in

projectors440.jpg

C3 (and Matador Records) is officially confirming that Sonic Youth is canceling its upcoming tour dates because guitarist Lee Ranaldo fractured his wrist.

Also, Marva Wright, “The Blues Queen of New Orleans,” recently suffered a stroke and will not play her set.

Dirty Projectors and Mike Posner will now both take the stage Sunday in Zilker Park.

Dirty Projectors are now playing at 5 p.m. on the Dell stage. Michael Franti and Spearhead are now in Sonic Youth’s old slot at 7 p.m. on the Dell stage.

Some comments from Fresh and Clean, the fest’s publicists:

“ACL Festival lineup planning and booking starts a full year in advance, with the goal of delivering a bill each year that is fresh, eclectic and phenomenal. As the Festival weekend draws closer, reworking and filling-out the lineup becomes more challenging due to existing tour schedules and availability. So, we’re as bummed as you are when a one-of-a-kind band has to cancel their appearance (due to circumstances beyond everyone’s control). But even with all of the switch-a-roos, the 2009 event is sure to rock your socks off. Plus, you’ll get to wiggle your toes in Zilkers lush, new grass!”

Bummer about Marva-I was looking forward to seeing her again.

The publicist’s statement is hilarious. Like, we try to keep it fresh, but we’re bummed that Sonic Old (I mean Youth) can’t play.

I can’t even mock the last two sentences- they mock themselves verbatim.

Again, I know people are going to be pissed about this choice, but the choice is a great one. Beastie Boys drops and they get Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Lily Allen drops and they get Them Crooked Vultures. Now this. Every choice is great. YYY’s are far more relevant today than Beasties. Them Crooked Vultures are the most hyped band in existence. And Dirty Projectors (although far less known) are doing what Sonic Youth used to do: shaking things up, originally. The show was sold out and we could have gotten patsies. We didn’t. Kudos to C3.

People have to first be wearing socks in order for them to be rocked off…I doubt most people at ACL will be.

“Eclectic” may be the most overused word in Austin. I say we ban it…amend the U.S. Constitution if necessary.

The last sentence should read: “At least you still get to take part in the annual destruction Zilker’s lush new grass.”

I would venture to say that you will have 40-50 photo’s of Colt McCoy this year. If you must do this,PLEASE keep it in the sports section

Otto — I disagree. Not everyone attending is a moped riding hipster with a palindrome for a name. We oldsters in our late 20’s were excited to see the classics.

Palindrome-Hater,

Don’t hate me because of my name — or the fact that I have better musical taste than you. Enjoy Pearl Jam if you want the “classics.” I enjoy classics too, which is why I’m so excited for Levon Helm. I’m going to park my moped as close to his stage as possible.

Do people still care about the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s? I thought they were here today and gone tomorrow.

No true hipster goes to festivals period. Especially not ACL. How lame that is.

I’m a Band fan from the first album. A big fan. And a fan of Levon’s older stuff and his movie roles. But is last couple of albums have been pure worthless CHEESE. The kind of stuff that ANY (ANY!) semi-competent bar band could put out. Worthless. A waste of digital bits.
