Sonic Youth forced to cancel ACL due to injury

Word has it that Sonic Youth has been forced to cancel their Austin City Limits Music Festival appearance because of an injury.

The band was slated to play 7 p.m. Oct. 4 on the Dell stage. They were also scheduled to tape an “Austin City Limits” show on Oct. 5.

No official word yet from the band or the label, but a statement should be forthcoming early next week. No word yet from C3 Presents on who will replace them.

Austin’s own Spoiled Royals play boogie blues in Sonic Youth tunings! Or maybe C3 can add a band with electronic dance beats and an androgynous but charismatic singer in tight pants since nobody’s really doing the (old) new wave thing right now.

First Beastie Boys and now Sonic Youth? I guess Pearl Jam is next, huh?

ACL is STARTING TO SUCK!!!

Not to mention the fact that the replacement bands are never any good!

Uh, what kind of bad mojo/karma has C3 (or possibly ACL) acquired through it’s existence where bands are dropping off one by one. First Meg, then the Beasties, now Sonic Youth. Stay away talent, stay away…

Want to bet ACL don’t drop their ticket prices to reflect the fact that acts are pulling out?

If it’s true, it’s an even bigger bummer since they were also supposed to tape an ACL TV episode while here for the festival.

Im very curious if one can request their money back with all the bands dropping off and being replaced with junk ones.

Seriously, who at C3 decided that the Yup Yup Yups were a high enough caliber band to replace the Beastie Boys? This concert is high profile enough to pull in better quality.

Uh, do you think C3 will ask us to pay more when they book a terrific replacement (and giant upgrade) like Them Crooked Vultures?

I know, the internet was made for complainers, but C3 has been pretty even in finding crappy/great replacements when bands get sick/injured/insane and cancel. That’s the breaks when dealing with “artists”, but overall C3 has given us a pretty even lineup throughout the years.

You guys need to relax. After the show sold out, they could have replaced the Beasties with some local act. They got Yeah Yeah Yeahs — a band relevant in 2009, unlike the “band” they replaced. Then Lily Allen leaves (devastating my kids) and they get Them Crooked Vultures, 2009’s most anticipated act anywhere. I was skeptical too. But they’ve proven they are serious about music. I freaking love Sonic Youth. But now I’m anxious to see who they get as a replacement…They deserve our patience…

I’m just happy that I got to see Sonic Youth (for free!!) in Marfa two years ago.

By just the facts

Geez, it is really C3’s fault that someone in Sonic Youth is injured or that a Beastie Boy developed cancer??

Maybe C3 should put a clause in the band’s contracts not allowing any of the band members to become sick or injured in any way for the 6 months leading up to ACL.

Now, Lily Allen on the other hand… C3 needs to stop wasting time booking the Brit chick flavor of the month since they cancel every time (Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Adele, Lily)

While I’m disappointed the Beasties aren’t playing, I look forward to seeing both Karen O and Them Crooked Vultures.

ACL is pointless. Worst lineup ever. Saving my money for SXSW….

Take note C3- this is what happens when you schedule acts that haven’t been relevant for 20 years (B-52s, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Sonic Old, I mean Youth). People in their 40s tend to get injured or sick, and when they’re musicians, you can probably go ahead and add another 20 years to their lives.

This is why I’ve lived in Austin my entire life, but never been to an ACL fest. I went to Aquafest every year. Unlike ACL fest, it was reasonably priced, the size was manageable, it had great acts, and it didn’t think too much of itself.

Seriously, is any one going to miss them? Sonic Youth hasn’t been relevant for 20 years. They really need to call it a day and disband.

Sonic youth is above relevant … if it wasnt for them we wouldnt have any NOISE ROCK we have now. EX: Blonde redhead (AWESOME BAND) - AUTOLUX (AWESOME BAND) - EVEN Austin’s own OCTOPUS Project.. and the listgoes on… most likely the negative comments above come from a senile 21yr old or under little turd. GO LISTEN TO GOOD MUSIC AND STOP LISTENING TO TRENDY CRAP LIKE THE FRAY AND COLDPLAY.

Man…ACL is the weakest Festival in the US….They pretend to be Coachella however are not in the ball park.. David Matthews, weak/might as well be Jerry Jeff Walker…Beastie Boys, weak….John Legend, super weak….theivery co…are you serious…they’re a semi headliner? The Yeah Yeah Yeahs…are no no no’s!!!!! Kings of Leon…oh god….John Legend…oh yeah…we’ve been there….what the hell is a crooked vulture?…are they kin to Andrew Bird….hahahaha!

And if the Decemberists come and play one more year I’m going to vomit

Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam were top by far…I cant believe SY was going to do a taping that would have been awesome!
