XBox is the new ACL stage sponsor; two other stages named for Livestrong Foundation, wildflower center
Austin City Limits Music Festival organizers announced Monday that the two remaining, thusfar un-sponsored stages would be named for the Livestrong Foundation and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
In addition, Xbox360 has moved stages. It was once sponsoring the former WaMu stage (a.k.a. the gospel “tent”). They will now title the stage hosting STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), Girl Talk, Raphael Saadiq, and more.
The Livestrong Foundation and the Wildflower Center are non-profits; no donor funds were utilized to acquire the stage name rights, which were a gift of the Festival. C3 donated naming rights to one of the two main stages at Lollapalooza to Olympics 2016, the organization trying to bring the games to Chicago. AT&T didn’t renew its sponsorship contract at Lolla either.
Two stages without paid sponsors? Ouch.

Corporate Advertising on stage names is really one of those “only in Austin” weird things. C3 makes everyone see a commercial ad when they look to the stage or over schedules, but other premier festivals don’t.
The Outside Lands festival in San Francisco was this weekend. Outside Lands is the exact same thing as ACL except better weather (70 degrees and sunny!) and less corporate whoring by the promoters. Outside Lands literally has all the exact same headliners as ACL. Like ACL, Outside Lands also happens in a large and beautiful urban park. Yet Outside Lands does not sell stage names. The same promoter also runs Bonaroo which also uses creative stage names like “This Stage” and “That Stage” instead of AT&T Stage and Dell Stage. Coachella likewise does not sell corporate rights to stages. Keep Austin City Limits weird and corporate!

I have an XBOX and wear my Live Strong thingie on my wrist so I can’t really frown on this. I think it’s a great the Livestrong Foundation is putting it’s name out there for more people to see and more will know thier cause.

‘Corporate whoring’ folks, makes your 3-day pass less expensive. The real cost of shutting down Zilker for months, installing millions in infrastructure, hiring all that staff, and bringing that many bands to Austin for that much time costs a lot more than $125/person.
