ACL Fest tix go on sale April 7

The ACL Fest Web site is announcing that advance tickets go on sale Tuesday April 7, but there are no other details, such as price. In past years, an undisclosed alotment of cheaper tix go on sale before the lineup is announced, but once they’re sold out the price jumps to the next tier. The top amount for a three-day pass last year was $170, which included all service charges.

Expect a price jump this year, as Pearl Jam, the Beastie Boys and Dave Matthews Band have all but been confirmed as headliners. Last year’s Bonnaroo headliner Pearl Jam is one of the highest-paid festival acts, which could trickle down to consumers.

The dates this year are Oct. 2 - 4, which is great news for freckle-face strawberries like yours truly. Plus, the resodding, leveling and irrigation work on the Zilker soccer fields should keep the dust where it belongs- under the grass.

No artists have been confirmed for ACL, as the line-up has not been officially announced. It’s irresponsible to say anything otherwise.

Finally ACL is wising up and moving the event to a “cooler” time of the year. It never made sense to me to have it in September, the month that always makes me think of leaving Austin for cooler ground. I had heard from ACL staff that many bands end their tours in Sept. and that helped Austin land great bands at that time of the year. Personally I believe that November would be a more fabulous time. This is why we live here - when the hot summer begins to wane - we all come alive. Great time for an outdoor event.
