Beat 104.9 goes off the air … for good

Local hip-hop station The Beat 104.9 is now just a memory to Central Texans.

At 5:30 p.m. today, the station signed off and its predecessor, Digital 104.9, returned.

Border Media Partners acquired The Beat’s format and Univision Radio bought the 104.3 FM frequency from Entercom, owner of Mix 94.7 and Majic 95.5, in February of last year. Univision’s La Que Buena can now be found at 104.3 on the FM dial.

The sale spurred BMP to make a series of moves, placing The Beat on its 104.9 frequency; moving Digital, the Spanish-language contemporary pop station that had been broadcasting there, to 92.5 FM; and shuffling La Lupe, a Mexican oldies station that had been parked on the 92.5 frequency, to 1560 AM.

Tonight, The Beat’s Web site has already been set to redirect to GoHispano.com, a Web site affiliated with Digital 92.5.

To all Beat listeners, please understand that this is a business. Radio stations come and go, and that won’t change. From each of us, (Snoop, Lady K, Rico, 2DQ, JK, Cat, Tio Rudy, promotions & sales staffs, and myself) we want to thank you for all your support. We enjoyed what we did because of you. Plenty of hard work went into making the Beat YOUR station, and we can’t thank you enough for that support.

Respectfully,

Swerve The World Famous.

Austin radio market is the absolute worst. The mornings especially. Why anybody thinks anybody gives a flip about whatever the DJ’s talk about ad nauseum is beyond me. Because they are radio “personalities” doesn’t make their lives anymore interesting. God bless satellite! SHUT UP AND PLAY THE MUSIC.

I just hope each of you who got canned finds something better, and quickly. It’s not a good economy to be out on the street and you deserve better.

OTOH, the poster above has some sage words for those morning jocks who like to hear themselves talk. SHUT UP AND PLAY THE MUSIC. That’s the reason Sirius is in my car right now.

Richard,

You need to get over yourself. If you are going to criticize another poster’s English skills then heal yourself. Grammar is spelled with an “a”. English should be capitalized. Your sentences have no subjects, making them fragments. Hopefully, from my snide post you will see how ridiculous criticism seems when posting comments that denigrate others.

I don’t know about ya’ll, but I am happy!! Why does Austin need two hip hop stations anyway! I love Digital 92.5 but I live on the west side, so now it is easy to pick up. When you combine the two towers, Digital is probably the most powerful station in Austin. AWESOME!!!!!!!

did this fool just say why do we need two hip hop stations ? ok and this must be the reason the Austin radio scene is WACK… all major cities have 2, 3 or more hip hop stations and dozens of under ground pirated stations trying to come up.

This is the reason why austin is so late with their music and they listen to the same things for MONTHS, is because there is no diversity. You’ve let the market brainwash you.
