Willie sans words

For the first time in its 35-year history, Texas Monthly has produced a cover without any type besides the logo. The black and white photo of Willie Nelson (also missing: the top of his head) says it all.
The May cover story is a 12,000-word oral history of Willie’s life, built from 45 interviews conducted by Michael Hall. You have to wonder if the intro claiming “their stories amount to the very best biography of Willie Nelson you could ask for” is a dig at former staffer Joe Nick Patoski’s epic new Willie biography.
The buildup to Wilie’s birthday has been so exhaustive that I can only say, “C’mon Willie, could you please turn 75 already!” (The big day’s a week from today.)
Texas Monthly writer Michael Hall is also a musician. Willie’s got a hat like that.

I wish I subscribed, and could get one without the words. I’ll have to settle for the one that makes it up to the stores in Colorado.
I thought Michael might sing Happy Birthday to Willie, but maybe next week?
